We are seeking energetic and creative people to help us make the most of the Yew Mountain Center.
Volunteers may help us with the forest farm, gardens, trails, buildings, office, programs and generally refining our systems to realize some of the potential on our 500-acre property. There are many ways you can volunteer, depending on the time you have available. Recruiting Americorps members for 2023-2024We are currently looking to fill a 3 or 6-month position, starting in June, and/or a 1-year position starting in September.
The stipend for the full year, full time position is $20,000. We would also consider a full-year, half-time member at ~20 hrs /week. Resident VolunteersResident volunteers will contribute to a diverse menu of projects happening at the center, as described above (such as helping with the forest farm, gardens, trails, buildings, office, and programs). There will be numerous ways for volunteers to have an impact at YMC during their time here and beyond. Share Spaces Resident volunteers will be provided a bed in our bunkhouse with a shared kitchen and dining room. The living arrangements are like that of a youth hostel—a step above camping in terms of comfort, but with less privacy than a hotel room. Each room is in its own bay with a curtain for privacy. Hot showers and flush toilets are available with a short walk to our lodge and a primitive latrine is located just outside the bunk house. The Job Volunteers will work 25-30 hours per week under the direction of YMC staff. There are many attractions on-site and nearby that we encourage our volunteers to enjoy during their off time. The community may provide some meals for our volunteers, but most meals will be the responsibility of the volunteer. Ours is a supportive community dedicated to encouraging and nourishing young people. We will be looking out for the health and well-being of our volunteers. However, volunteers should be capable of making responsible decisions for themselves without much supervision. The stipend is $300 for the month. Preference will be given to candidates who can complete a whole month, but shorter sessions will be considered. Friday VolunteersThose who are able to give their time in shorter increments may be interested in this option. Come every other Friday from 12:30 -4:30 p.m. to help with various current projects happening around the center. Volunteers will get free admission into that evening's program + a free dinner.
