This AmeriCorps member would help develop and assist existing place-based education and stewardship programs at the Yew Mountain Center. This service position will support projects that foster biodiversity, promote sustainable land-based economic opportunities, conserve resources, and offer experiential education to participants of all ages.
This volunteer should enjoy working outdoors. Knowledge of Appalachian ecology would be helpful but not a requirement. Good communication skills are preferred. Ability to navigate social media for marketing and publicity purposes is a plus. Teaching experience, facilitating groups, and interest and ability to work with youth would also be helpful qualities. This volunteer should be able to work with a team, take initiative, and follow through with minimal supervision. The member duties can be flexible to accommodate the special skills and experience of the candidate.
We are looking to fill a 3 or 6-month position starting in June and/or a 1-year position starting in September. The stipend for the full year, full time position is $20,000. We would also consider a full-year, half-time member (~20 hrs /week.)
