"There's Plenty at the Table"
Living Well Summit & Anniversary Party

We believe that these mountains hold an abundance for all if we plan wisely and have a generous heart.  Join us to celebrate our one year anniversary and an explore the theme of "plenty" through mini-workshops throughout the weekend.  ***All sessions this weekend are free!

Session 1:  Goods in the Woods.  Experience the bounty our forests provide including and beyond timber. 
Session 2:  Green Comfort.  Explore eco-friendly design and construction.
Session 3:  A Big Table for a Small Planet.  Discuss how reforming our food system can nourish the things we cherish.
Session 4:  Creative Cafe.  Share ideas about creative processes and how they can move us forward in a beautiful way. 
Schedule: (subject to minor changes)

Friday, November 3
4-6pm  Participants arrive, settle in, explore.
6pm  Home-made Pizza dinner
7pm  Movie Screening The Fierce Green Fire or Wild Food, I Think I Love You--attendee's choice.
 
Saturday, November 4
7:30  Yoga with Marlyn
8:00 Breakfast
9:00  Session 1:  Goods in the Woods 
  part a--indoors: Non-timber forest products for income and health with Christine LaPorte
  part b--outdoors:  A walk in the fall woods--herbs, trees, animal habitats with Paul Strauss
12:00  Lunch
1:00  Session 2:  Green Comfort
  part a--Hempcrete, timberframing, and other green building and design techniques.
  part b--Green Homes neighborhood tour, 2pm.  (Provide or arrange your own transportation.)
4:30  Session 3:  Big Table on a Small Planet
  Happy Hour drinks, apps., and conversations about food reform with Dawn Baldwin.
6:00 Farm to Table Dinner
7:00 "There's Plenty at the Table" Variety Show (Community event)
8:00  Live music and dance party.
9:00 Community Campfire and Jam.
 
Sunday, November 5
8:00-9:00 Light breakfast
8:00 Yoga with Marlyn
9:00  Session 4:  Creative Cafe--Conversations about the creative process, sharing inspiration, pieces and ideas.
10:00  Brunch
11:00 Guided Hike
1:30 Wrap-up, evaluations, goodbyes.
Guests check-out by 5 pm or extend stay.

COSTS
All workshops are free this weekend.  Lodging is $75 per room per night.  Please call 304-653-2037 or email [email protected] to reserve a room. 
 
Program Tuition: None

Meals:  Breakfast and Lunch are $10 each. The Farm to Table Dinner on Saturday is $20. We accommodate special diets with notice. Please provide these details when you make your dinner reservation. Food is fresh, local, and organic when possible.
 
Materials Fee: There are no materials fees for the Living Well weekend.
 
Lodging:  2 nights lodging must be purchased with a program. (Unless you are a local resident.) Send us a note at check out when you reserve your spot, call 304-653-4079, or email us to arrange lodging.  We cannot book lodging online at this time. 

GOOD THINGS TO BRING:
binoculars (we have some you can check-out,) insect repellent (we sell effective, locally made all-natural repellent,) sunscreen (we sell a locally made natural sunscreen too!), closed-toe shoes, long pants and sleeves, hat, jacket, a swimsuit (for our pond or river excursions), favorite field guides (we have some you can check-out,) journal.

GOOD THINGS TO KNOW:
  • AT&T cellular service works pretty well.  Others do not.
  • We have a land line you may us e:  304-653-4079. 
  • We have WIFI, but it is quite limited.  Enjoy unplugging, if you can.
  • The closest grocery stores are in Lewisburg (50 min.) or Marlinton (35 min.) 
  • We have limited refrigerator space if you would like to bring special food.  We ask that you don’t store food in your rooms.  We have storage bins for this purpose.
  • BYO-Adult beverages to enjoy responsibly if you are old enough. 
  • Our rooms and buildings are non-smoking and we use unscented, natural cleaning products.
  • To protect the ecology of our pond, we ask that swimmers use non-toxic natural sunscreen and/or bug repellant if they use any. 
  • We have one guest room where pets are allowed for an additional charge of $50. Pets must remain on a leash and are not allowed in common rooms (service animals excepted.)
  • All participants must sign a standard Waiver and Release form.
  • We are a small, community run non-profit and highly motivated to make this center the best resource it can be.  The YMC is a constant work in progress. We welcome your ideas and feedback.
