Tis the Season of Field Trips & Homeschool Experiences
We love hosting school groups at the Yew Mountain Center!
We have designed and run trips for pre-K through 8th grade and would be happy to work with high school and college groups. We work with teachers to create trips that connect to their learning objectives and create memorable, positive experiences in nature for all.
Choose your adventure from our list or let us design a new one for your students.
Program and Outreach Coordinator Posted 8.14.2025 The Program and Outreach Coordinator will support the Yew Mountain Center’s mission to provide programs that explore Appalachian ecology, culture, and the arts while promoting personal and community wellness. This hourly position is for approximately 25hrs/week through March with a plan to continue beyond that date as funding allows. A combination of remote work and on-site work is possible, but this position cannot be fully remote.
Project Management The P&OC will help oversee the execution of grant deliverables and keep records of activities for several projects:
expansion of the Mountain Medicine Trail
amplifying Indigenous Voices on the Mountain Medicine Trail,
creation of the Feather and Flora Trail,
construction of the timber frame Forest Farming Classroom, and
continuing the objectives of the West Virginia Forest Farming Initiative.
Educational Outreach The P&OC will liaise with area teachers and organizations about YMC programs and offerings such as field trips, trail usage, and Master Naturalist opportunities. Ideally the P&OC will provide educational support for these programs, but can also be helpful in an administrative role. They may also help create and publicize educational content to raise public awareness about programs and goals of the YMC and the West Virginia Forest Farming Initiative
Development Support The Yew Mountain Center depends on grants and donations for its operational costs and is planning a capital campaign to purchase the 500 acres that the organization currently stewards. The P&OC may play a supportive role in grant seeking and donor relations to help develop the capacity and grow the impact of the YMC.
Qualities Sought We are seeking a good communicator and collaborator with experience in project management in a related field. Educational experience and knowledge of Appalachian ecology is a plus. The Yew Mountain Center is a small and adaptable organization. This job description can be adjusted for the right candidate.
